Celebrating ACJ’s Achievements & Supporting Justice in 2026
Dear Friends of American Citizens for Justice,
As 2025 draws to a close, all of us at American Citizens for Justice (ACJ) pause with deep gratitude for the community that continues to make our work possible. In a year marked by uncertainty, fear, and heightened enforcement actions, your solidarity has helped ACJ remain a trusted source of advocacy, information, and support.
This has been a turbulent year for many in our community. Some families have endured the devastating impact of ICE enforcement actions that tear loved ones apart. For others, the current political climate has raised urgent questions about immigration status, civil rights, and access to legal protections. While well-funded forces continue to fuel hate and undermine our democracy, grassroots organizations like American Citizens for Justice remain a catalyst in protecting our communities.
In 2025, with your support, ACJ achieved meaningful progress, including:
· Hosting a virtual “Immigration: Know Your Rights” seminar featuring Ramis Wadood from the ACLU, equipping community members with timely and critical legal information.
· Expanding Immigration Legal Assistance resources by compiling and sharing a comprehensive list of public legal resources and private immigration attorneys to help individuals navigate urgent immigration-related questions
o With gratitude to Ramis Wadood (ACLU), Tori Booker (International Institute), and members of ACJ’s Immigration Task Force for their leadership and support.
· Developing Multilingual Legal Assistance Referrals, drawing from the State Bar of Michigan directory to identify private attorneys across legal specialties who speak multiple languages and understand cultural contexts.
o These referral lists are provided strictly for informational purposes and do not constitute endorsements; they are living resources that will be updated as needed.
· Providing a list of bilingual mental health service providers to support community members facing stress, trauma, and uncertainty during these challenging times
· Co-hosting the Vincent Chin secondary street sign unveiling at Cass & Peterboro with MAPAAC and the Association of Chinese Americans, honoring Vincent Chin and the origins of the Asian American civil rights movement in Detroit’s historic Chinatown.
· Presenting ACJ’s 2025 Film Series, using storytelling and dialogue to explore civil rights, cultural identity, and community preservation through:
o Admissions Granted, a documentary examining affirmative action, the Supreme Court decision ending race-conscious admissions, and the diverse perspectives within Asian American communities
o New Wave, a powerful coming-of-age documentary by Elizabeth Ai that traces Vietnamese American refugee youth, music, generational trauma, and identity—marking the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War
o Big Fight in Little Chinatown, profiling five Chinatowns across North America at the crossroads of survival and gentrification
These accomplishments represent more than programs—they reflect families supported, history honored, and communities empowered with knowledge and care.
As we look ahead to 2026, ACJ remains steadfast in serving as a bridge between our communities and the institutions that shape our daily lives. The path forward demands unity, courage, and sustained investment. Our success will be measured not only by policies changed, but by the dignity preserved and the solidarity we uphold.
If you believe, as we do, that everyone deserves a true sense of belonging and the freedom to pursue their highest aspirations, we invite you to make an end-of-year contribution to ACJ. Your gift directly strengthens the fight for justice, safety, and democracy.
